The contents of the fountain has inspired a question that’s been making the rounds through the WoW community: If you had a coin in that fountain, what would it say? What wish or musing would be left on it? I posed the question to the WoW Insider team to see what they would come up with, ranging from the silly to the serious, from speaking in-character to speaking as a player. Here’s what they (we) had to say…

Combining the two is a recipe for success, I think! I really enjoyed the ability to get a little glimpse into the mind of various lore characters, and it was offered up in a pretty interactive way. It’s not only the fun quotes, but a sense of discovery accompanies each new coin.

Adam Holisky:

My Alliance Warrior: “What part of ‘follow my target’ came out in Orcish?” My Alliance Shaman: “That Hunter gear looks so nice…” Alex Ziebart:

My Priest’s coin would say something like, “I wish I could have done more.” My coin? “Why won’t Mike take me to prom?” Chase Christian: My Rogue would wish to never been seen unless he wanted to be seen.
Daniel Whitcomb: My in-character wishes…

My Tauren Warrior would wish for a sandwich. You can have a sandwich too. My Human Warrior would wish to understand why he should do less damage with two huge maces each the size of his entire body than a Rogue does with a couple of daggers. My Draenei Shaman would wish for a hat he could wear visibly. My Orc Shaman would wish for me to hurry up and get him to 80. And a hat he could wear visibly. Michael Sacco: “How long has my Flametongue Weapon been off?”

Just like the coins in-game, our responses varied pretty wildly. A few serious wishes (Sylvanas, Tirion), a few silly wishes (Archimonde, Danath), and the occassional shattered 4th wall (Arthas, Anduin). Now I pass the question on to all of you. What would your coin say?My Human Death Knight: “Remember.” My Night Elf Druid: “I wish to go home.” My Dwarven Hunter: “I’m doing pretty good. Ain’t got much to wish for. Maybe a new hunting rifle?” My Human Warlock: “I wish for knowledge and power. Not necessarily in that order.” Lisa Poisso: “In memory of Philpot the Shadowfiend.”
Manda Miller:

My Hunter would wish to be loved. My Holy Paladin would wish for the ability to break curses, to finally learn the multi-layered mysteries of The Knife, and for everyone else with her hairstyle to suddenly go bald. My Death Knight would wish for the Holy Paladin’s raid slot.

The same situation plays out with 40 man raiding. Look at 25 man raiding and how even now it has the potential to become a pain in the ass when so and so can’t log on or is running late. Fact of the matter is I hope Blizzard does not go back at all to their 40 man raid style. Most of the time there were scummy people riding the coat tales of the few good players in the raid and getting gear as a result. 40 man raids have great potential in PVP and in world encounters, but not in a dungeon. And for the record I do indeed have tons of fond memories of Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, and Ahn’Qiraj. Didn’t have too many fond ones in Naxxramas though hehe, that was like trying to get 39 trained chimps to play DDR with the green goo shotting up fromt he ground, let alone the freaking gargoyls that wouldn’t die. At present we want to talk about something to you, that’s to say, we have no plans to add a 40-player dungeon into Wrath of the Lich King.

We fully anticipate making the 10 and 25-player dungeons and raids challenging as a part of their progression.Perfect example you can try for yourself. Remember UBRS? God I remember UBRS. We had to get 15 people together, pray somebody had the key, and then plug in there for 3 hours or so to get to Drakk only to then find out that your chestpiece, never dropped. But you think today and say “Oh man UBRS I miss UBRS.” Try running it now. It’s boring, and old, and has a lot of trash. It’s no longer, fun or worthwhile. Read the rest of this entry »

“We’re pleased to welcome the new and returning players who have helped World of Warcraft reach these new milestones, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and support that the game’s global community has continued to show,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We look forward to providing all of them with an excellent entertainment experience for a long time to come.”

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that World of Warcraft is now played by more than 11.5 million subscribers worldwide. The landmark was aided by the November 13 release of WoW’s second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

According to Blizzard, Wrath of the Lich King sold more than 2.8 million copies within its first 24 hours of availability, making it the fastest-selling PC game of all time. The expansion has gone on to sell more than 4 million copies in its first month.

This by no means covers every schematic, and instead looks at the big ticket items and new innovations, including stylish, if somewhat controversial, new modes of transportation, consolidations to save bag space, and more.Engineering has seen many changes over the past year, and Wrath of the Lich King brought even more. Today, Insider Trader is taking a look at some of the highlights of the profession to help you set goals and plan ahead with your leveling.

Engineering
Engineers are also beginning to focus on designing items that can be sold to other players, which adds another side to the profession. Engineering in Wrath of the Lich King is very different from what you’ve experienced previously. For example, Engineers used to be weighed down by trinkets, if they ever wanted to be able to use many of their gadgets. This system is slowly being replaced by a special type of “enchant” that allows an Engineer to consolidate.

Enchanting

Ring enchants - there are four different ring enchants with attack power, healing, spellpower and haste rating. So far, there’s no enchants giving all stats, but no harm done there. I’m also presuming the healing enchant will be removed due to spellpower change. The tooltips are inconsistent with the information found on Wrath wiki, but you’re probably getting either 64 attack power, 38 spell power or 32 haste.
Enchanting is overall a very profitable profession, and don’t forget the new enchantment scrolls which will enable you to sell enchants on the auction house
BoP wands - Wotlkwiki has a few screenshots if you want to compare stats, but I’m not too impressed. For those who prefer PvP, Gladiator wands will almost always come first due to resilience bonuses, and I doubt any raider is looking to squeeze a few more DPS from a wand.

Tailoring

Tailoring in Wrath was discussed previously in Romil’s post, but I guess I should do my own summary here. Read the rest of this entry »

The end result was that they made some of these spells universally available to all priests, and completely removed the rest. When WoW was being developed, Blizzard realized that night elves and trolls, for instance, would not follow the Light in the same way humans and dwarves do, so they tried to represent a bit of this diversity through race-specific spells. It didn’t work out, though — some were too powerful, while others weren’t worth reading about, much less putting on one’s action bar. Here the lore had to surrender to the game mechanics in order to provide the best game balance.Priests in the World of Warcraft are a single class that incorporates a wide variety of characters.

They are best known for casting spells that call forth the power of the Holy Light, but the priest using these spells in the game mechanics doesn’t necessarily have much connection to the Light as such — rather they have a connection with their own religion which grants them similar effects to those of the Light.

In roleplaying, however, there is a lot of room for players of different races to behave differently, and draw their powers from totally different sources. Greater Heal, for instance, could come either from the Light or the power of Elune. A Shadowfiend could either be a spawn of the Forgotten Shadow, or a dark trollish voodoo spirit. If you are roleplaying a priest, the only thing that really matters is that your character have some sort of faith or profound belief, which could serve as the source of their divine magical power. A priest’s magic revolves around his or her strong beliefs and ideas — but what those beliefs are is entirely up to you.

This week, Tailoring is up for discussion. There are faction recipes and dropped recipes, as well as highlights from your trainer that you won’t want to miss. Wrath of the Lich King has changed many things about the professions we all know and sometimes love. Last week, Insider Trader looked at the highlights of the Leatherworking and Blacksmithing professions, showing you what’s new, how to plan out level 80, and what you can look forward to at what points. Here is a quick summary:

Some professions have special vendors that will sell you recipes in exchange for items that you receive while crafting. Enchanters, for example, can learn new enchants by handing over Dream Shards. Fortunately or unfortunately, Tailors currently have no such resource. New and improved exclusive spellthreads for enchanting your pants. A 20-slot bag and a 22-slot bag. A slow flying carpet mount as well as an epic one. Specialty cloth for epic gear. Frost resistance gear. An 8-piece PvP pseudo-set. Exclusive cloak enchants. Special threads that you can sell for a profit. Soul shard and enchanting bags with 32 slots. Tailoring Read the rest of this entry »

We can hope for two things–that Blizzard continues to put these kinds of cheap wow gold awesome scenes in the game, and that when they do, they give those of us with nice monitors/TVs the ability to watch them all pretty-like.

Yes, yes, old news for some. For those of you among us who haven’t yet experienced this particular quest line, of course, it’s not to be missed. For those who’ve seen it in-game already or who just can’t contain themselves, though, you can stream the incredibly spoiler-heavy cinematic in full HD on Blizzard’s site now or download it directly from BigDownload. If you’re into it, there’s also a nice short story/summary of the momentous events directly under it.With the release of Wrath of the Lich King and its inclusion of world-changing phased events, Blizzard’s stated goal of ramping up their dynamic storytelling seems more and more like a success, but it doesn’t stop with quests alone. The in-game cinematic for the final legs of the epic Wrath Gate quest line really shows what Blizzard is capable of outside of CGI with the in-game engine and a bit of creative tinkering. Not to mention it’s a huge lore explosion that fuels the story for the rest of the expansion!

Below is a quick guide to the best spots for every type of Elemental Eternal in Wrath of the Lich King, and it’s assumed that you have Cold Weather Flying when you’re out farming. Most of the best farming spots aren’t exactly tuned for players lower than level 77, and you can’t get to the really awesome spots at all. So hold off on your farming until you’re 80, or near 80. It will make your life easier. It’s time to start farming mats for… everything! When you’re off farming, Eternals (the Wrath equivalent of Primals) are probably on the top of your list. We’ve had a lot of people asking us what the best places for Eternal farming are, so we’re here with the answer.

Eternal Water
Crystallized Water is a nice change from Shadow and Life, you can get it all over the place. Wintergrasp is, of course, the best place for it, but you can find it in just about every zone. You can fish it up, and Miners can get it from Cobalt and Titanium nodes. Below are some good spots for non-Miners to get their hands on Water. Read the rest of this entry »

In Wrath of the Lich King, the hit cap has moved from the original 16% to 17% hit. Why? Prior to this expansion, there was a baseline 1% chance to miss with spells that you could not remove. No matter how much hit rating you had, you were stuck with a 1% chance to miss. In Wrath, that’s gone. It can be overcome.

Shadow Priests have two talents that improve their chance to hit: Shadow Focus and Misery. Though Misery is a debuff, you can more or less guarantee it will be up 100% of the time after your first spell lands, so we’ll count it in our numbers. When you combine these two talents, you get a total of 6% ‘free’ spell hit. The Alliance has a slight edge in the form of Draenei slaves which offers another 1% hit, but we’re going to pretend we’re all Horde today and assume we won’t have that buff at our disposal in a raid. That means we need 11% spell hit from gear. We’re getting to the point in Wrath where more than just the hardcorest of the hardcore are raiding. Not everyone is there (and not everyone is interested), but the time will come. On the way there, you’re going to have to visit an old friend: The hit cap.

You might find yourself running one place over and over for a drop with a ton of hit, and that’s just not terribly necessary. The early raids are pretty forgiving on the whole Hit thing, so you probably won’t wipe your raid if you’re not right at the cap. Read the rest of this entry »
